The mission of Sotterley Plantation, a National Historic Landmark, is to preserve, research, & interpret Sotterley Plantation’s diverse cultures & environments, & to serve the world as an educational, cultural, & community resource. Historic Sotterley, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) public charity organization.

Education at Historic Sotterley Plantation

Education is one of the most important aspects of Sotterley’s mission and touches almost everything that a visitor will encounter. Whether an exhibit, a tour, 2nd Saturday Series Program, a field trip, or an event, the education of students and visitors about Sotterley’s history and culture takes place before, during, and after a visit to Sotterley Plantation.Visit Historic Sotterley Plantation!

Homeschool Groups
Sotterley is a great place to bring your homeschool group. If you have a group of less than 15 students and parents, homeschoolers can enjoy and learn from all the activities offered on a regular basis for the normal site fees per person.

Internships
Historic Sotterley welcomes and supports college students in their academic and career goals. Sotterley has been fortunate to host talented, focused, and hard-working students from several local and out-of- state higher learning institutions.

  

Junior Docent Academy at Sotterley Plantation
Are you looking for something fun to do this summer that involves history and interacting with others? We have a perfect opportunity for you! Our Junior Docent Academy will enhance your communication skills while sharing our rich history and exquisite site with visitors. Upon successful completion, you will become Junior Docents and ambassadors of Historic Sotterley Plantation!


Family Summer Fun at Historic Sotterley PlantationChildren learn and play the old-fashioned way, with self-direction, imagination, creativity, and time flexibility.  Activities are based on children's choices and interests, development of new skills, and site conditions, using a small group and very hands-on format.

Workshops
Sotterley serves as a resource for students, teachers, and other professionals in collaboration with other museums and organizations to offer training and interaction that can be incorporated by the participant in a practical way to enrich lives.
